The cause of our addictions and co dependant behavior is shame and trauma. We carry around within ourselves this sense of shame, this pain, this sense of worthlessness, this sense of not belonging of something being hopelessly missing and we want so badly to escape from these feelings so we do the only thing that we know and that’s to to use or engage in co dependant behavior which only helps for the moment. To recover we have to come out of hiding and be honest and deal with our denial.
