DISSOCIATION

The problem that so many of us have had because of the trauma and shame that we experienced as just little children growing up has led to us dissociating from our true selves in order just to survive. At the time we were just trying to solve a problem. So our true selves, what we call our “inner child” goes into hiding as we dissociate from who we really are. We learn to present a false self to the world in order to protect our “inner child” from being hurt. This shame, this dissociation, caused by the trauma we experienced is what leads us to addiction as we continue to try to solve our unresolved feeling of worthlessness and abandonment and shame that on our own we don’t know how to deal with. The truth only will set us free and we have to go through our feelings and to become the people who we truly are and to get our identity back.
